On 15 September 2025, participants in this 3-hour online workshop explored the fundamentals of ORCE (Orchestration Engine) and gained a strong starting point for applying it in real projects. The session combined theoretical insights with hands-on exercises, giving developers, engineers, and technical teams practical skills to begin working with ORCE.
The workshop flow was structured as follows (timestamps indicate minutes in the recording):
- [00:00–04:50] Introduction & FACIS Overview
Setting the stage with context and orientation for participants – 8ra, FACIS project & key deliverables. - [04:50–22:00] FAP & ORCE Fundamentals
Exploring the core concepts and design principles of ORCE in flow-based programming. - [22:00–29:00] Mini Demo
A first practical demonstration, showcasing how ORCE works in action. - [29:00–1:11:32] Design & Deployment
Setting up ORCE (prerequisites, system requirements, installation, deployment and configuration) and practicing flow design and management. - [1:11:32–1:52:57] Advanced Topics & Hands-On
Exploring complex workflows, integrating external APIs and services, tracking a provider’s status, leveraging the Gaia-X Wizard Workflow and experimenting with AI-driven development approaches. - [1:52:57–1:54:49] Wrap-Up & Next Steps
Concluding with key takeaways and guidance on the upcoming second FAP Workshop on 29th of September.
This structured progression allowed participants to move from foundational knowledge to advanced applications, leaving them well-prepared to integrate ORCE into their own workflows. The workshop slides are also available for download.
